FIFA 14 - Longshot Tutorial

Hello everyone! I decided to write a longshot tutorial based off of what I have found that works well for me!


1. What you need
To get some nice longshots, you will need the following:

• A someone with good longshot stats and shot power stats (Anything over 80 longshots and shot power will yield some pretty good results!)
  
• PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!
  

2. Best longshot takers I've used
Best NIFs I've used are (in order from best to "worst"):

• Robben
  
• Hulk
  
• Hernanes
  
• Reus
  
• Gerrard
  
• Schurrle
  
• Suarez
  

Best IFs and Legends I've used are:

• Effenberg
  
• SIF Pedro
  
• Suker
  
• Kroos
  
• SIF Sneijder

3. Controls + Power + Aiming
This is where you are going to learn all the controls for a nice longshot!

Controls
All you need is the left stick and the sprint button (RT Xbox/R2 PS). As you prepare for the longshot, hold the sprint button, and once the ball reaches the maximum distance from the player, power up the show and aim with the details provided below.

Power
Depending on the player, I recommend holding the shoot button to power up between 3-3.5 bars, like these:


The power is something that you will have to practice on, as every player is going to have different shot power, longshots, etc.

Aiming and positioning
I think that aiming and positioning are the most important things to take into account with longshots. I recommend taking the shot from either the left or the right side of the pitch, not the center. For a normal longshot, if you are on the left side of the pitch, you will need a right footed player and on the right side of the pitch you will need a left footed player. Note: this is where players like Hernanes, Kroos, and Pedro really excel. Their 5* WFs allow you to take deadly longshots essentially anywhere on the pitch You need to aim the left stick to the OPPOSITE CORNER to which you are facing. So for example, say I am on the right side of the pitch with a left footed player. I will want to aim the left stick to the LEFT corner of the goal. I made a very crude diagram to help display what I was trying to get across:


Videos with comments
All of these videos were recorded from the Xbox One during my Ultimate Team.

Video 1
This was with Gotze, who doesn't have the best longshot stats, but still proved to be a nice goal. Notice how I aimed for the left corner when I was on the right half of the pitch.

Video 2
A cracking goal from Steven Gerrard. I found a bit of space with him and launched one up into the top left corner. Had a little more power than I wanted to have, but it wound up working quite well.

Video 3
This is my favorite. Skill moves are great for getting some space. As you can see, I did a nice Berba-spin to get into acres of space and launched one from Robben. 3.5 bars into the top left corner. The keeper didn't even move for it

Video 4
Suarez scores for fun. Again, found space, powered up, aimed to the opposite corner.

Loved the Guide! But .. There's a question i'm wondering about .. I understand the sprint button does effect the shot.
Why is that? Does it really matter if i wasn't running(or sprinting) ?

Great tutorial. Only thing I would change is to maybe embed the videos to show up on the site then put them in spoilers. Takes a few good seconds to load each video but other than that it looks great!

I was wondering about that. If it's not possible to do, don't sweat it. It's not a big deal.

HTML is OFF

You can see it when you go into full editor under the smiley overview.

Have you used Lampard before? He's not on your list of best NIF Long shot takers, but by god he should be! Just shoot from anywhere with him and it will fly in, no word of a lie

And the tactic to aim to the other corner will be useful; i usually just aim anywhere really, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, hopefully though this will increase in the future by aiming the other way, we'll soon see

I actually haven't used Lampard yet! I have always preferred Gerrard in FUT over him though. But, his stats look wonderful. I'll add a community section to best longshot takers and add him

Awesome guide, Brad! Well done!

One of the best long shoters I tried was IF Cazorla. He's really good and has that 5* weak foot that always comes in hand.

Nope! The sprint button helps generate the pace on the ball. I've found that unless the players longshots have great dip (Schweinsteiger's shots have awesome dip) and if you dont sprint, you will shoot the ball into the stands

so do you have to let go of the sprint button before you shoot? i tend to press and hold sprint button the whole 90 mins..lol

No, it's better to be sprinting, you get more power behind the ball when you unleash it.

I don't agree with the positioning in the OP but nice guide nonetheless, I've personally scored lots of longshots with players shooting with their right foot on the right side of the field and scoring in both corners of the goals, vice versa with the left. It's just a matter of judging the distance and the power which most people need to figure out for themselves.

Nice guide brad, one player that is so underrated with an amazing shot is Huddlestone (seriously try him 5* WEAKFOOT too a hidden cheap gem)

As an added bonus he has an Afro which we all know makes him OP ..... believe me he plays well above what his stats suggest.

how far away should i shoot from the goal? sorry if youve already explained this :/

You can shoot pretty much anywhere from 25-45 yards with this! It all depends on the power though. Generally, 3-3.5 bars will suffice. But, you may need to lower this depending on the players stats.

I noticed in videos 1 2 and 4 you didn't follow your foot suggestion that you made in your post. 2 and 4 for example you were on the right side of pitch but used the right foot to score the goals. Did you still aim to the left with the left analog stick in this situation? Also do you aim directly to left or right when taking long shots? In fifa 13 I used to pull down on the left analog stick as well as to the left or right when shooting, but this hasn't seemed to work out as well for me in FIFA 14. Any suggestions?
